"The Wise Socrates" is an interactive and entertaining educational performance for the whole family, inviting them to immerse themselves in the world of philosophy through the story of the ancient thinkers Socrates and Plato. In the performance, children are introduced to the Socratic method of questioning, Plato's allegory of the cave, and even find themselves at a real philosophical feast, where they themselves become thinkers, and ultimately vote for the fate of Socrates on trial.
Abstract philosophical themes and the context of ancient Greece in the performance intertwine with the reality familiar to children and adolescents – social media 'trends', opinion-formers 'influencers', podcast culture. Thus, philosophy becomes a practical game in which one learns to ask, doubt, recognize manipulation and understand the difference between what is real and what only seems. After all, today, when the flow of information is enormous, and children are also exposed to misleading messages, the ability to think independently and critically becomes especially important.
The performance is inspired by the children's book "The Death of the Divine Socrates" published by the publishing house "Phi Books" and is based on the original play by co-authors Orestas Razumas and Marta Stankevičiūtė.
The project was created as part of the "Open Space" program of the "Art Printing House". The project is funded by the Lithuanian Council for Culture .
