Ilgis Lake – a long, winding and mysterious pearl of the Utena region
Ilgis is a lake that perfectly lives up to its name. Narrow, elongated and somewhat mysterious, it lies in the Utena district, in the Leliūnai eldership, just 7.5 km southwest of Utena, near the village of Antalgė.
Various sources mention that as many as 6 streams flow into this body of water of glacial origin (one of them is from the nearby Apšlavos Lake). Waters, like people, exchange information, and it is said that water has a great memory. More than one resident of Utena or guest of the region admits that in the summer at Ilgis they return to a warm childhood memory. When the wind and waves calm down, old stories come to life here, and the peace of nature invites long, deep conversations.
There are rural tourism homesteads near the lake, and a comfortable beach for vacationers has been established near the village of Antalgė.
Recommendation for visitors: If Ilgis invites you to its shores this summer, don't miss the opportunity to visit the sculpture park of the unique ceramist and sculptor Giedrius Mazūras, located nearby, in the village of Antalgė.
